Support groups are designed as a local support network for carers. Most of the groups are facilitated by Carers MK Support Workers who are available to discuss your caring role, either within the groups or on a one-to-one basis. The Former Carers group is facilitated by a Carers MK volunteer and the Hanslope Carers group is facilitated by the Hanslope PPG (Patient Participation Group).
Support is provided by meeting together and sharing experiences, information and offering peer support to one another (as well as a cup of tea, of course!). Carers have reported that the group gives them an opportunity for a much needed ‘break’ from their caring role.
Carers are able to attend groups as and when is convenient to themselves and are welcome to drop in as often or as little as suits the individual as we understand that the caring role can at times be unpredictable and demanding. The groups are free to attend. There is no need to book a place at any of our in-person support groups, you can just turn up. You will need to book your place on any of our online support groups.
Some of our support groups are geographical (such as Great Linford) and are relevant for all carers either living locally or in other parts of Milton Keynes. Other support groups are specific to the health condition of the person being cared for (such as MS or Parkinson’s).
