Carers MK and Carers Bucks parkrun tour

Back in 2020, Carers MK and Carers Bucks decided to embark on a tour of the various parkrun venues in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes and we managed parkruns at Black Park and High Wycombe before a certain global pandemic put paid to us continuing.

Undeterred, we decided to relaunch our tour in February 2023 and, as we approach the festive season, we can report that with the exception of Higginson parkrun – which was cancelled due to rain on our scheduled date – we have taken part in eight different parkruns across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. Starting at Aylesbury, we have visited Wendover, Linford Wood, Black Park, Buckingham, Church Mead Amersham, Milton Keynes Willen Lake and Wycombe Rye.

We encountered steep hills at Wendover and Church Mead; copious amounts of mud at Wendover and Wycombe Rye; sunshine and heat at Black Park; sunshine and bracing conditions at Willen Lake and some very much appreciated flatter routes at Aylesbury, Linford Wood, and Buckingham.

Above all, we were warmly welcomed at each and every venue and received lots of encouragement as we made our way around the 5K courses. Parkruns are not just about racing and getting a personal best time – although that bit is very rewarding – they are a wonderful community where you can meet friends and make new ones, whilst doing something really positive for your own physical and mental health and wellbeing.

If you weren’t able to join us on our tour, but are interested in walking, jogging, running, or volunteering at a parkrun of your choice, have a look at the parkrun website for more information. There are volunteers helping at every event, including tailwalkers, so however fast or slow you are, you can’t get lost. For a guaranteed Saturday morning, feelgood factor, why not give it a go!
