Supporting Carers In Secondary School

How we can support your young carers

  • Staff awareness session
A support worker from our team will come to your school to deliver a staff awareness session. This session will help your staff to recognise and understand the impact of being a young carer, as well as what additional support is available for young carers in the local area.
  • Pupil awareness assemblies
A support worker from our team will come to your school to deliver a short, impactful presentation for pupils in Key Stage 3 about young carers. This gives any young carers in your school an opportunity to self-identify and understand how they can gain support in and out of school.
  • Young carer drop-ins
Our support workers will visit your school once a half term to check in with young carers that are registered with Carers MK. We will work with school link workers to organise which young carers will be seen for a drop-in session. If any additional work is required, we will pick this up with the young carers and their families through our mainstream service.
  • Delivering targeted support sessions
We can offer young carers who are in Key Stage 3 at your school the opportunity to take part in focused targeted support sessions. Our support workers will deliver these alongside school link workers. All sessions include fun group activities that promote sharing of experiences, acknowledging feelings, model coping strategies and enhancing knowledge.

*Please note, these sessions can be delivered during school hours or after school within your facilities. Not all young carers attending have to be registered with Carers MK.
