Supporting Young Carers In Primary School
How we can support your young carers
Please note, our primary school offering is for KS2 pupils only.
- Staff awareness session
A support worker from our team will come to your school to deliver a staff awareness session. This session will help your staff to recognise and understand the impact of being a young carer, as well as what additional support is available for young carers in the local area.
- Pupil awareness assemblies
A support worker from our team will come to your school to deliver a short, impactful presentation for pupils in Key Stage 2 about young carers. This gives any young carers in your school an opportunity to self-identify and understand how they can gain support in and out of school.
- Facilitating young carer support groups
Our support workers are happy to support a link worker in your school to deliver a half- termly support group within the school setting. This provides young carers the opportunity to meet other young carers and work on their wellbeing through fun, pre-planned activities that promote sharing of experiences.
*Please note, these sessions can be delivered during school hours or after school within your facilities. Not all young carers attending have to be registered with Carers MK.
- Delivering targeted support sessions
We can offer young carers groups the opportunity to take part in focused targeted support sessions. Our support workers will deliver these alongside school link workers. All sessions include fun group activities that promote sharing of experiences, acknowledging feelings, model coping strategies and enhancing knowledge.
*Please note, these sessions can be delivered during school hours or after school within your facilities. Not all young carers attending have to be registered with Carers MK.
